This celebration not only marks the victory of good over evil (triumph of Indian Goddess Durga over the demon Mahishasur) but also celebrates the soul of unity in Indian Culture.

Dandiya is performed using small bamboo sticks, Garba is performed by coordinated movements of hands and legs. Both these dance forms show their own religious importance and are performed as a part of the rituals during the nine day and night festival. Men and women play these dances and enjoy all nine nights of the festival.

The Tradition

During Navratri festival, Garba is performed with a joyful heartedly before offering prayers to the deity and performing rituals as a devotional dance. The Garba word comes from the Sanskrit word ‘garbha’ which means womb or embryonic life. Beautifully, this dance form is played by men, younger, older and women who move in graceful and rhythmic steps around in concentric circles and an illuminated earthen pot or lantern is placed in the middle. The devotees clap and sing while dancing in a circular way around the pot. The lantern showers heartful divine power. Amidst the circle of life i.e. the dancing circle, show's the divine power that remains steady.
